A Tyner Academy student was arrested for assaulting a school resource officer on Monday.

Now, we are hearing from the student's parents about the incident.

The parents said this all started on Friday when their son, who is a six grader at Tyner Academy, came home and said that he may have to fight a boy on Monday.

The parents thought the situation would de-escalate over the weekend, but that wasn't the case.

Tony Jackson and Libra Parker said on Monday morning the mom of another sixth grader brought her son to fight theirs.

“During the altercation of the video, you can see that while my child and her child are fighting, my child happens to fall during the fight and he tries to get up but her son pushes him. When he tries to get back up, she comes by and she pushes him back down and then my other son said something to her and then they had words and then the fight was over,” Jackson said.

Jackson said they went to Tyner Academy to file a report but administrators were already aware of the incident.

While on the way home, Parker said she got a text from her other son, who's in 11th grade at Tyner Academy, that insinuated some students were trying to fight him in the aftermath of the bus stop fight.

Shortly after, the parents received a call from the school.

“We are told to come get our child because he's possibly about to go to jail because he's trying to fight somebody and he's out of control and he's going through the building looking for someone to fight. Not the fact that someone has just assaulted my child and my child got up in a daze and was trying to get to whoever it was hitting him. He's not knowing who's hitting him, my son has a concussion and he has to go get his mouth wired shut today,” Jackson said.

Jackson claims there was an administrator nearby, but they did not step in.

“But afterwards, they want my child to calm down after two men jumped up on him, beat him, and want him to be in coherence just enough to calm down and understand his surroundings. My son told me when we got to the hospital that he didn't even remember what had happened outside of getting outside the door,” Jackson said.

A spokesperson for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said the school resource officer (SRO) arrived to what appeared to be the aftermath of a fight between multiple students.

The 11th grader was seen walking around trying to open doors.

The SRO intervened and blocked a door. They say that is when the 11th grader pushed the SRO out of the way.

The student was eventually taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on law enforcement.

“Now, with this situation I am having to fight this case against my son, which is unjustly put against him, take care of his medical needs and then try to fight to get him back in school. He is expelled for his part in the school, but the other two guys that assaulted him at this school will be able to go back in return to school within 12-days,” Jackson said.

The parents are planning to press charges against the mother who pushed their six grader and the two boys who jumped their 11th grader.

Officials with Hamilton County Schools said they have nothing to add outside of the juvenile's arrest.
