Two Cleveland restaurants fail inspections because of a lack of food safety

It was a great week for restaurants around the Tennessee Valley, however two Cleveland restaurants did receive failing scores.

Gemelli’s Pizzeria on Ocoee Street scored a 64 and Ok Maguey on Paul Huff Parkway scored a 69.

At Gemelli's Pizzeria the inspector found there was not a consistent date marking system for food, causing some food to be held and not marked to be thrown out in seven days.

The inspector said there were clear bottles of liquids at the grill not identified.

Utensils storage drawer interiors were not clean. 

There was a large gap at the back outside door according to the inspector.

The inspector noted the person in charged did not demonstrate food safety knowledge and did not train the staff fully based on risk factors.

About three miles away the inspector at Ok Maguey found a clean pot being stored on the floor.

The new menus were printed without a consumer advisory label for eggs offered partially cooked. 

The inspector found a bowl without a handle being used as a scoop for salt.

A health policy was not available in the restaurant. 

There was no chlorine sanitizer dispensing from the dishwasher because the container was empty. 

Both failing restaurants were reminded of the food safety training class through the health department.
