The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says nine inmates have been charged with attempted murder in connection to the assault of another inmate on Wednesday.
It happened around 10:30am at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center off Standifer Gap Road.
HCSO spokesperson Matt Lea says the nine inmates, James Blanks, David Cosby, Jeremy Daniels, Jarius Ellzey, Lamar Evans, Gregory Gillespie, Thomas Heffner, Ja Quan Johnson, and Antavius Perry, are accused of violently beating another unidentified inmate to the point of unconsciousness while in the Delta 2 pod of the jail.
Lea says the inmate was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.
Lea says all nine inmates are charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Riot, and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
